Catwoman v. Burglars (It's Happening)

Catwoman is a film that came out in the early 2000’s.  For those of you who have never seen it, you’re probably lucky. The plot of the film is loosely based on the back story behind the saucy Batman character, Catwoman. Unfortunately, the script is weak at best and you have to ignore the fact that it is not true to the comics. Needless to say, the film has received a lot of criticism.  However, that is not what I am here to do. I am focused on how well the fight scenes are performed and overall put together. So, without further ado, I give you the abridged fight scene between Catwoman and the Burglars:

The character of Catwoman is played by the beautiful, seductive Halle Berry.  Now, I'm pretty sure Ms. Berry had a stunt double for this film. Either way, the fighting stinks.  There is so much wrong here, it’s borderline ghastly.  The whole fight starts off with some awful CGI effects, which "amplifies" Catwoman’s “cat-like reflexes”. Without any true fight choreography, Catwoman manages to dodge countless bullets and land on her feet.  After all that nonsense, Ms. Berry continues to kick all the bad guys. I kid you not. Take a look at the fight carefully and see if you can witness Ms. Berry throwing any punches or utilizing any hand techniques. You can’t because it doesn’t happen.  It is hysterical the amount of kicks she throws in this singular fight. Now, I do have a martial arts background and can appreciate a good kick-combo when I see one. However, all of the swirling, kicking, and leaping makes it appear as though Ms. Berry is a preschooler throwing a hissy fit at a dance recital. Put bluntly, it’s martially impractical to throw so many kicks. This is especially true because of the number of people she is fighting. She is more likely to have her legs pulled out from under her than to have three robbers get beaten up by her thunder thighs of pure muscle.

I would like to say that this film has the worst fight choreography I have ever seen, but I’d be lying. While an impractical fight, it’s clear that it was at least well rehearsed. That is to say, everyone’s timing was right on when it comes to appearing to be impacted by a hit. There’s something to be said about a well-rehearsed fight scene no matter how terrible the choreography and/or direction.

Overall, this fight is awful. I wanted to like it. I really did. But, unfortunately, things don't always end up how we want them.

Thanks for Reading.
