Batman V. Bane

About a year ago we saw the release of the latest Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises. Batman has been my favorite superhero since birth. So, when they started releasing updated movies, you can imagine I was ecstatic. I couldn’t wait to see how they would re-interpret my favorite childhood hero. While I don’t love everything they did with the series, they didn’t do a terrible job of re-inventing it. I think my biggest item of contention is Bane’s voice. In the latest movie, Bane sounds more like an upset monopoly man than an actual villain. Anyway, all of that aside, there are some epic fight scenes in the latest film. While many of these scenes are incredible, there is one that really upsets me. This is the fight between Bane and Batman in the underbelly of Gotham City. Take a look:

This fight makes Batman look weak. Whether this was the intent of the writers or not, it’s not ok with me. Batman is supposed to be strong and, while he does have his weak moments, he should at least be able to get in a very good punch or two. Did I mention he’s also supposed to be an expert martial artist? Instead of “kicking butt”…literally, he’s simply tossed around like a rag doll. This is not the Batman I know. This however, is an issue of both writing and choreography. I think the fight would have been enhanced had Batman been given a “fighting” chance (if you’ll excuse the pun).

Aside from that, this fight is pretty awesome. The timing of each combatant is excellent. It looks like actual fighting, which indicates that they rehearsed extensively. Additionally, this shows that time and care was put into making sure this fight looked incredible.

On the whole, I can’t complain entirely.  The fight does look cool. Additionally, I’m pretty convinced that I’m only one of few who take issue with Batman getting beaten up so bad.

Thanks for Reading.
